The Advisory Board for the new LightSPEC conference platform is carefully curated to represent a wide range of lighting and building industry stakeholders including: lighting specifiers and designers; architects; engineers; interior designers; manufacturers; building owners and managers; researchers; educators; government agencies; ESCOs, and utilities. 

The Board will help bring a fresh approach to dynamic programming that addresses topics important to the industry today including: design trends; climate action; environmental justice; health and wellness; equity, diversity, and inclusion; technology evolution and integration; and the industry’s dynamic ecosystem.

In addition to his role as Program Director, Clifton is CEO of Clifton Lemon Associates, a consultancy providing strategy, marketing, and education services to the lighting and energy industries. Previous positions he has held include: Business Development Director, California Energy Alliance; Marketing Communications Manager, Soraa; Director of Business Development, Integral Group; and founder and CEO of BrandSequence. Clifton is an active speaker and has extensive experience in curriculum development for professional training in lighting and energy efficiency. He is also the author of Beautiful Light; An Insider’s Guide to LED Lighting in Homes and Gardens (Routledge Taylor & Francis). He is a past President of the San Francisco Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society and is on the Advisory Board for LightFair International.

She is an Emerging Professional member of the IES Technical Procedures Committee for Solid State Lighting, and Women in Lighting + Design; and serves as Treasurer and Board Member of the California Energy Alliance. He is the creator of “Light for Life – a Global Collaboration 2020” which involved 17 webinars from 15 lighting organizations from around the world during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tom was the director of the IES’ free 4-hour live webinar “Germicidal Disinfection in the Days of COVID-19” which had over 3600 live attendees from 56 countries and has been viewed by thousands more as a free offering on the IES website.

Josh has extensive of experience in the sustainability, construction, and real estate industries with projects ranging from energy retrofits and LEED certifications to supervising commercial new construction and residential development. He has also worked with government agencies, businesses, and nonprofits to deliver projects and education around sustainability. Before CEA, he was Executive Director of the San Diego Green Building Council, and a real estate and sustainability consultant for Tomea, Inc. He has a B.S. in construction management from Southern Polytechnic State University, a Certificate in Sustainable Business practices from the University of California, San Diego, and a M.S. in Energy, Policy, and Climate from John Hopkins University.

Lisa was principal of Heschong Mahone Group and has done groundbreaking research on energy performance in buildings, daylighting and human factors. She lectures internationally on daylighting, view, and thermal comfort, and is the author of Visual Delight In Architecture: Daylight, Vision, and Views (2021 Routledge Taylor & Francis). She is a Fellow of the IES and has a Master’s in Architecture from MIT, and a BS from University of California, Berkeley.

In addition to directing LESA, Dr. Karlicek is a professor of Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering at RPI. Before RPI he spent over 30 years in industrial research and R&D management positions related to optoelectronics, telecommunications and lighting systems with corporations including AT&T Bell Labs and General Electric. He obtained his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh and has over 56 peer reviewed technical papers and 48 U.S. patents.

Over the last three decades Craig has worked in every market vertical of the electrical construction Industry, and is currently managing reconstruction projects at Dynalectric, a large Design-Build Electrical Contracting and Engineering firm. As an original CALCTP certified Electrician he helped lead the charge to adopt California’s Acceptance Testing program throughout the State. He then founded and developed the Industry’s first dedicated Lighting Control Department of Lighting Control Engineers using cutting edge construction design technologies to support Estimating, Preconstruction, Project and Field management. He is a founding member of CEA serving on the Executive Committee, Code Compliance Committee, and others in a leadership role from 2016-2021 before transitioning to the new Technical Advisory Council.

Alana spent 15 years in New York in lighting design, project management, and sales. Notable projects include the W Hotel Times Square; Thompson Hotel Miami Beach; and control systems for the Times Square Ball. She founded the North American Coalition of Lighting Industry Queers, which provides advocacy for LGBTQIA+ lighting professionals, and works with the larger lighting justice community to support all marginalized groups. She has a MFA in Lighting Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a BA in Theatre from Eastern Washington University.

He is the recipient of a NEA Traveling Fellowship, the CCAIA Young Architect Award, AIA Fellowship and the Chicago Tribune’s “Chicagoan of the Year” in Architecture, and the 2017 AIA Illinois Nathan Ricker Clifford Award for Architectural Education. He is also a Professor of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dan studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, including two years study in Rome.
